I had a bunch of nurses in the family for the most part, I know no physicians in the family but a bunch of nurses. So always was around kind of health care. I think my Barbies had babies so you know that kind of thing, very caring. Thought about physical therapy for a while, volunteered at a hospital for three years in high school and decided maybe that I would like to become a physician. I think I just kind of fell into it naturally, the caring aspect. I like the idea of family care so when I take care of a baby a lot of times I also take care of their parents and then grandparents. So I do have three generations of patients that I’d be taking care of at a time. I think one of the things that teaching does is it keeps me more current than I would normally be. Out in practice you would relearn things but you, it’d dribble down. The residents they’re like cutting edge man, they go and spend a month with a cardiologist who’s doing all the new things and they come back and tell us. And so it’s kind of nice to affect not only my patient’s care but also like thousands and thousands of patients we’ve trained. I’ve been here for a, I’ll be almost 16 years that all these people go out five a year and then affect thousands of patients and so you’re affecting lots more patients than I could as an individual. There’s a lot of things that we can’t cure and so I’m controlling but I’m not curing and so they’ll carry those diseases for the rest of their life. But how can we make it happen together? And so that collaboration between the patients is what I really enjoy in the office and we talk about that. You know, I can’t do this but can you do this? And so a lot of give and take on both of our ends. So it’s almost like sitting down with a cousin in your family and having a conversation, you haven’t seen him in a while so you have to catch up and then figure out what to do next.
