Gurjit Kaur, DO, FACP | Internal Medicine | Kelsey-Seybold

– Hi, my name is Gurjit Kaur. I’m an internist at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. I think the main way to establish trust is to be very open in
talking to the patient. It’s important to use
language that they understand, and not always use medical jargon. And it really has to do
with establishing rapport, ensure that they know that
you care about their health and that you will always
be there to help answer any kind of questions. I enjoy internal medicine,
primarily because I get to take care of
adults from the age of 18 all the way until patients
are in their geriatric stages. I also enjoy internal medicine because you get to take care of the whole person, and you’re addressing all
the different concerns that may come up. First and foremost, I love the multi-specialty group aspect, and our collegiality that exists between the different specialties. So if I need to talk to a specialist about a question that I might have, I can pick up the phone
and talk to anyone anytime, and they’re there to help us. The main philosophy that I believe in is it’s important to establish
good, solid relationships. These are patients that I’m
going to be taking care of for many years to come. To be open and to be
there for our patients whenever they need us. Whenever you see someone get better. When I see patients who come
in at their most vulnerable. For example, they’re feeling
very depressed or anxious, and you help talk to them. You may prescribe medication for them, suggest counseling, and
then when I see them back a few weeks from then, and they come in and tell me they’re feeling great. That gives me the most satisfaction, to know that I’ve helped make
a difference in their life. (calm music)
