Crowdfunding Video Phils Music Laboratory

Hi, I’m Philipp Rüttgers and I recorded a new live CD with the help of the JinJazz in Nijmegen (NL). I’m a pianist and composer and recorded eight pieces that we tested and rehearsed during the last year at several tryouts. I’am very proud how everything’s sounding, proud of the recording and want to release it. Unfortunately I lack sufficient funds to make this possible, that’s why I do this crowdfunding; hope that you enjoy the music and you can support it. Well, enjoy the music ! The music we recorded in Nijmegen is a very beautiful anthology of Philipp’s work. I personally find his music quite illustrative, narrative, and as an improviser you are triggered to build up your solo in a completely different way. Philipp successfully brought together a couple of first class jazz musicians, who are not only musically but also socially very compatible. That’s why we were able to have a true band feeling from the first rehearsal on. And this musical click between the band members has been put to good use by Philipp in his compositions, which are so well suited to each band member. Philipp writes interesting pieces for this septet and orchestrates them surprisingly. He also chose good musicians which makes it very exciting to play with this group. I believe that the CD, which we recorded with Philipp in Nijmegen, turned out to be a very beautiful CD. We rehearsed a lot before and performed a couple of times because the music requires some attention. It’s too complex to play straight away and I believe on the CD you can really hear that, that things fall together. Philipp writes very intriguing pieces with crazy rhythms that don’t sound crazy even though they are. The melodies are very strong. It is accessible even though it is often complex; the music is multi-layered and complicated. I find it a lot of fun to play. This project is so special for me because its character has become national. There are musicians from different cities and areas all across the country, who are also from different generations and “scenes”. And everyone brings their own experiences to a collective, and Philipp knows how to use this very well in his arrangements, which are actually quite challenging for everyone. Looking back over the last year I believe the music lab developed really well. In the beginning I felt unsure how to work with my fellow musicians and how my songs will workout etc… Nowadays I don’t worry anymore and well, I mean on the live recording we played nine songs and eight made it to the CD. Not bad, isn’t it?
