A&E doctor accuses Boris Johnson of ‘lying about NHS funding while patients die’ – Today News

Boris Johnson was confronted by a furious junior doctor who accused him of lying about NHS funding  The medic – in the audience on BBC Question Time’s leaders’ special – told the Tory party leader that people are dying as a result of cuts to services  The Prime Minister looked uncomfortable as he was reminded of the impact his party’s actions have had  She said, to loud applause: “I’m a junior doctor in A&E. Over the past nine years we’ve seen waiting lists getting longer, people are on trolleys for hours and hours in A&E  “It’s not just inconvenient, people are dying. I think you’re lying to us, every year you promise more money for the NHS but people within the NHS know it’s not getting through  “Why should we trust that you’re going to get this £26billion for the NHS when we’ve got years of cuts and people dying?”  The Prime Minister endured an uncomfortable evening on the show, with his half hour grilling branded a ‘car crash’ by critics  He appeared to swerve the point, saying: “Yes, of course, I understand things have been tough in the NHS but I’ve talked to hundreds of doctors and nurses, I know the massive demands that the NHS faces  “We can only meet that demand if we have a dynamic economy, and we won’t get the economy moving until we get Brexit done ”  Jeers could be heard as the Prime Minister steered his response toward Brexit.  He was booed as he walked into the studio, having sneaked in through a back door  Earlier this month NHS England data revealed that just 83.6% of patients were admitted or treated within four hours – well below the government’s target of 95%  This target was introduced under Labour in 2004, but has not been met since July 2015  Nearly one in four cancer patients are waiting more than 62 days for their treatment to begin, figures show  Jeremy Corbyn branded the figures “disgraceful” at the time.  Andrew Gwynne, Labour’s Campaign Coordinator, responding to Boris Johnson’s appearance on BBC Question Time Leaders Special, said:  “Boris Johnson’s performance was appalling He failed to take responsibility for the pain caused by austerity and shockingly defended his racist and homophobic comments  “The Conservatives have spent nearly a decade cutting our NHS, police and schools while gifting huge giveaways to big businesses and the super-rich  “All Boris Johnson has to offer is more of the same: more cuts, more failure and years of Brexit uncertainty Labour will deliver real change for the many not the few.”
